Physiological Testing with Pinnacle Training Systems
Q: WHY DO I NEED PHYSIOLOGICAL TESTING?
A: Testing is a important first step to a successful training program in that it gives you a “benchmark” or current picture of your fitness level. Because lab testing occurs in a controlled environment, it is easier to produce accurate results that can be consistently compared. These results are also much more accurate than using old training formulas (220- age = HR, for example) to determine heart rate zones and training paces. These formulas do not take into account the individuality of every athlete, so the most accurate way to assess what is best for your training is through physiological testing.

Determining your lactate threshold has scientifically been shown to be the most consistent predictor of performance in endurance events. The LTA allows us to precisely determine your training zones based on power (cycling), pace (running) or heart rate (cycling and running). This test also provides the athlete with optimal paces for racing. Power, heart rate and/or pace at threshold is also determined. Lactate at threshold and peak power can be used by the athlete to precisely monitor their training. Watts/kg of body weight at threshold is also determined as this is an important assessment of climbing ability. The entire test takes about 1.5 hours including warm-up, cool down and consultation. Follow-up testing on a regular basis provides the athlete feedback as to whether or not their training program is providing them with the physiological adaptations that is required for optimal performance.

General Population,
$150 1st test, 125 follow up
The MAP test is an incremental test the examines the athlete's heart rate response to an increase in workload. Based on the results, we can predict your anaerobic threshold and can determine your heart rate and power training zones. After the test, a consultation is provided whereby the test results are explained and how to apply the information to your training. This is a cycling test that uses your own bicycle on a lab-calibrated CompuTrainer Pro 3D stationary ergometer. The entire test takes about 1.5 hours including warm-up, cool down and consultation. Follow-up testing on a regular basis provides the athlete feedback as to whether or not their training program is providing them with the physiological adaptations that is required for optimal performance.
